For the last 8 years, John Reid has been the popular, award-winning host of one of America’s longest-running morning shows at NewsRadio WRVA in Richmond.
He has served as Vice Chair on the executive board of the Henrico GOP Committee, was elected as an alternate Delegate to the Republican National Committee in 2020, and served as a Delegate in 2024.
In March, he opened a public policy group called Voice of Virginia to allow him to travel the Commonwealth, listen to ideas and issues, and explore the idea of running for Lieutenant Governor in 2025.
He is the founder and chairman of The Virginia Council, where he leads a team of educators and activists committed to preserving Virginia’s cultural heritage and best traditions. He also speaks across the Commonwealth and the United States to audiences, offering analyses of global politics and advocating for smart, proven conservative public policy. His work promotes effective communications that challenge stereotypes and forge new solutions to old problems.
Previously, Reid served as the Director of Editorial Communications for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and was Senate Communications Director for U.S. Senator George Allen of Virginia during the Senator’s time on the Foreign Relations Committee. He was also elected and served as the President of the bipartisan U.S. Senate Press Secretaries Association.
In addition, Reid had the distinction of serving as one of the last interns to President Ronald Reagan in his Los Angeles office, following his presidency. During this time, he traveled with Reagan, drafting much of his correspondence and public remarks, and assisting the press secretary.
Reid was a television news anchor in Richmond for a decade and also worked as an investigative reporter covering murders, consumer affairs, government corruption, and political malfeasance.
He led communications seminars for the new parliament of Iraq in Baghdad during the war and became a partner and director of international development at one of Washington, DC’s most influential global consulting firms. He was based in the Middle East during the turmoil of the so-called “Arab Spring.”
John has visited all 50 states and lived, worked, or traveled in 113 countries around the world—on all seven continents. He has successfully climbed to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, scuba-dived the Great Barrier Reef, camped on safari in the African Serengeti, and kayaked with humpback whales in Antarctica. As an Eagle Scout, he still enjoys a mountain campfire in central Virginia.
John is a product of Henrico County Public Schools, a 1992 graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and St. Christopher’s School in Virginia. He now resides with his partner, Alonzo, in Richmond.
